A L U M N I GOSSIP Virginia Odor (Mrs. H. N. Rickey), 1895-96, gives her address as the Shoreham, Washington, D.C. Minnie Earl Sears, B.L.S. '00, died in New York on November 28, 1933. She is widely known to the library world for her work as an editor of reference books. The first twenty years of her career were devoted to the scholarly study and practice of cataloging, her first position was in the catalog department of the University of Illinois; after that she was head cataloger in Bryn Mawr College Library, and then in the University of Minnesota Library, leaving there to become first assistant in the Reference-Catalog section of the New York Public Library. In 1920 she joined the editorial stafT of the H. W. Wilson company, entering on work which enabled libraries throughout the country to enjoy the fruit of her wide knowledge and experience. From 1927 to 1931 she taught advanced cataloging in the Columbia University School for Library Service, organizing one of the first thoroughly graduate courses in this subject. She found time outside of her editorial work to engage in some cataloging activities for the A.L.A. and other library groups. Twenty published volumes bear her name, those which are more familiar to the whole library world are the "List of Subject Headings for Small Libraries," "The Song Index," "The Essay Index," "The Children's Catalog" and the "Standard Catalog for Public Libraries." Adaline M. Baker, B.L.S. '02, has a temporary position in the catalog department of the Public Library, Evanston, Illinois. Ruth Abbott, B.L.S. '03, died at Presbyterian Hospital, October 28, 1933. She had been on the staff of the University of Chicago Library since her graduation, and since 1916 had been Librarian of the School ot Education. She was widely known in the library world for her fine professional work and her generous, attractive personality had won tor ner many friends. „ T . . c. . Margaret A. Gramesly, B.L.S.
