Dr. Avis K. Smith entered the University of Illinois in the fall of 1872. After four years, interrupted by a year of teaching, she graduated with t'ie Class of'77. In 1880 she entered the Woman's Medical College of Chicago, graduating in s.J. Immediately following her graduation she received an appnintment in the New England Hospital for Women and Children in Boston, Mass. In 1887 she was appointed physician to the Wo nan's Refuge and Maternity Hospital, which position she held for seven years. The University of Illinois conferred upon her the degree of Master of Science in 1892. In the following year she was made a member of the faculty of the Smith Hospital and Training School. Dr. Smith is also Professor of Diseases of Children in the Woman's Medical College of Kansas City, Mo. She is a member of the Jackson County Medical Society and of the American Medical Association. She now has a wide practice in Kansas City, where she has been since 18U4.
