All in the gladsome morning hours, The s u n s h i n e gilds t h e I'ni towers, It drives the mist from dewy bowers. It warms t h e gold h e a r t s of t h e flowers. But it eannot warm these hearts of ours < iood-bye, Sophomores ! In o t h e r Springtimes, many a day, We'll walk this same old Springfield way, And o'er t h e b o n e v a r d ' s sweet array We'll wait to watch t h e ripples play; But O, this springtide We must say (iood-bye, S o p h o m o r e s ! i know a girl with d e e p grey eyes A wealth of love within t h e m lies. Hut soon must fade v o u t h ' s early ties; Life's serious cares for h e r ari IM1 miss her friendship sweet and wise (iood-bye, S o p h o m o r e s ! I know a boy with blue eyes clear, Pure pools in a sunny a t m o s p h e r e . I s n u b b e d him awfully once, I fear; I'll bet I won't again n e x t year. Hut t h e n , p e r h a p s , h e won't be here. (rood-bye, S o p h o m o r e s ! T h e fates spin out t h e years alway, And some a r e gloomy, some are gay. This one t h a t ' s Bped like days in May, One gold t h r e a d in life's woof of grey, Will cheer us on some future day. Good-bye, S o p h o m o r e s !

A violet in the meadow grew, Its modest head bent low with dew. It was a lovely flower. There came a youthful maiden lair, With lightsome step and joyful air, Along, along, The mead OK along, and sang. " A l a s : thought the violet, " that I might be The tlower of nature fairest to see, Ah, only a little while, Till the loved one would bear me away, Pressed close to her heart so light and gay. Ah onlv, ah onlv One passionate moment l o n g . " Alas! alas! The maid d r e w near, Bill heeded not that flower so dear. Crushed it lay, by her careless step. It sang and died but was happy still: " For if I must die, it is mv will To die through her, through her, And at her feet to lie."
