paign. T h e contract provides for payments on the basis of costs, plus 21 per cent, but charges of less than $25 will be billed on a lump sum basis; trucking charges will be at the rate of $2.50 per hour and will not exceed 15 per cent of the cost of labor and materials on any job. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, this contract was awarded and the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute the same.

CONTRACT FOR FURNACE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS IN HOUSING UNITS (14) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract to J. R. Boers Heating Company, Inc., Champaign, the lowest bidder, for furnace maintenance and repair work in the temporary housing units on the campus at Urbana-Champaign during the fiscal year beginning July 1, r 953- The contract provides for services only as required and payments will be made at the following rates; Furnace Repairman and Serviceman, $2.00 per hour straight time and $3.00 per hour for overtime and for work on Sundays and holidays; Helper, $1.50 per hour straight time and $2.25 per hour overtime and for work on Sundays and holidays; 30 per cent to be added to job costs as contractor's fee. Payments for these services will be made from the operating funds of the Housing Division. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, this contract was awarded and the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute the same.

CONTRACT FOR REMODELING AT CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION (15) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $4,802 to the Mutual Contracting Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for remodeling at the Chicago Undergraduate Division. T h e work will consist of rebuilding a wooden frame bulkhead beneath the west-end lounge picture windows and replacement of aluminum frames in the snack bar. The bulkhead has deteriorated, through rotting, to such an extent that it has been necessary to provide temporary bracing to keep the plate glass from falling. If this condition is not remedied as soon as possible additional damage will occur and make the area unsafe. Funds are available in the operation and maintenance budgets of the Chicago Undergraduate Division. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS ON ENDOWMENT FARMS (16) T h e College of Agriculture which manages the University's endowment farms has a systematic program of modernizing buildings and making other improvements on these farms as funds become available. This year's program calls for remodeling of houses on the Hackett and Allerton farms. The Dean of the College of Agriculture and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract to M. Osmond of Monticello for remodeling the house on Allerton Farm No. 3. The work will include installation of a central heating system, a bathroom, and modernization of the kitchen and living room. The estimated cost is $7,500.
