This work is part of the rehabilitation of the area surrounding the student residence hall, the staff apartment building, and other buildings owned by the University in this vicinity. Funds are available in a special appropriation made by the Board on November 28, 1952. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, these contracts were awarded as recommended and the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute the same.

CONTRACTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SIDEWALKS AND CURBS AT CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES (9) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of contracts to the Capitol Cement Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for Construction of sidewalks at 820-34 South Wolcott Avenue, Chicago $2 591 This will consist of replacement of broken sidewalks in front of these properties, construction of a retaining wall and sidewalks south of and adjacent to 824-36 South Wolcott Avenue, and construction of a driveway approach adjacent to and south of the student residence hall. Construction of sidewalks on Hermitage Avenue, Chicago 4 743 This is to replace the broken sidewalk and curb on the west side of Hermitage Avenue from Polk to Taylor Streets which are hazardous to pedestrians. Funds are available in an appropriation made by the Board on November 28, 1952. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts.

On motion of Mr. Grange, these contracts were awarded as recommended and the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute the same.

CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF LIGHTING OVER MARSHFIELD AVENUE PROPERTIES (10) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $5,631 to the Monroe Electric Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for installation of protective lighting at the Chicago Professional Colleges. This work is part of the rehabilitation of the area surrounding the staff apartment building at 829-33 South Marshfield Avenue and adjacent areas. The contract will provide for the installation of lighting of the staff apartment building area, including a parking lot. The lighting is necessary for the protection of tenants, some of whom are nurses whose duties require them to go back and forth between their apartments and the hospital during all hours of the night, and also for the protection of University property. Funds for this work are available in an appropriation made by the Board of Trustees on November 28, 1952. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

CONTRACT FOR DEMOLITION OF BUILDING AT 8 2 2 SOUTH WOLCOTT A V E N U E , CHICAGO (11) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $3,450 to the Speedway Wrecking Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for the demolition of the building at 820-22 South Wolcott Avenue, Chicago. The building is in such poor structural condition that the cost of rehabilita-
