MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS J a n u a r y 2 1 , 1953 The J a n u a r y meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the LaSalle Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, on Wednesday, January 21, 1953, beginning at 10:00 a.m. W h e n the Board convened, the following members were present: Mr. John R. Fornof, Mr. Harold E. Grange, Mr. W i r t Herrick, Mr. Robert Z. Hickman, M r s . Doris S. Holt, M r . W a y n e A. Johnston, Mr. Park Livingston, M r . Herbert B. Megran, and M r s . Frances B. Watkins. Governor William G. Stratton and Superintendent V e r n o n L. Nickell were absent. Also present were President George D. Stoddard, Provost Coleman R. Griffith, Dean E. R. Series, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Chicago Professional Colleges, Mr. Ralph F . Lesemann, Legal Counsel, Mr. J. F . Wright, Director of Public Relations, Mr. Cushman B. Bissell, Trustee-elect, M r . Lloyd Morey, Comptroller, Mr. C. W . Weldon, Treasurer, and Mr. A. J. Janata, Secretary of the Board. President Livingston read a telegram from Mr. Nickell stating that because of delay in the arrival of his train in Chicago he would have to miss the meeting, and asking that consideration of the resolution he had planned to offer be postponed until the F e b r u a r y meeting. 505
