1954] UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS MEETING O F T H E BOARD O F TRUSTEES 1349 At this point the Board of Trustees convened. The members of the Board, officers of the University, and officers of the Board recorded at the beginning of these minutes were present. MINUTES APPROVED The Secretary presented the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of March 20, 1954, press proof copies of which have previously been sent to the members of the Board. On motion of Mr. Johnston, these minutes were approved as printed on pages 1277 to 1302, inclusive. BUSINESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT O F T H E UNIVERSITY The Board considered the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University. AWARD O F CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT CERTIFICATES (3) The Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded, under Section 5 of the Accountancy Act of 1943, to the following candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked Certified Public Accountant certificates obtained by passing a standard written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law: Stale from Which They Maine Address Obtained Certificates NORTON MOORE BEDFORD Urbana Louisiana ROBERT L E E COKER RICHARD CARL SCHEFFEL Miami, Florida Wood River Florida Missouri I concur. On motion of Mr. Johnston, these certificates were awarded. APPOINTMENTS TO T H E FACULTY (4) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant P r o fessor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. 1. H A N S BREMS, Associate Professor of Economics, beginning August I, 1954, at an annual salary of $7,500 ( D ) . 2. JOHN O. CORLISS, Assistant Professor of Zoology, beginning September I, 1954, at an annual salary of $5,500 ( D ) . 3. RICHARD S. ENGELBRECHT, Research Assistant Professor of Sanitary Engineering, in the Department of Civil Engineering, beginning September 1, 1954, at an annual salary of $6,000 ( B Y ) . 4. WILLIAM G. REEVES, Assistant Professor of Music, beginning September I, 1954, at an annual salary of $5,400 ( D ) . On motion of Mr. Livingston, these appointments were confirmed. HEADSHIP O F T H E DEPARTMENT OF CITY PLANNING AND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (5) Professor O. G. Schaffer, Head of the Department of City Planning and Landscape Architecture, will retire September I, 1954. On nomination of the Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, after consultation with the faculty of the Department, I recommend the appointment of Professor Karl B. Lohmann, Professor of City and Regional Planning, as Head of the Department, beginning September I, 1954, at a salary of $8,850. For several years the Bureau of Community Planning in the College of Fine and Applied Arts has been operated as a separate department under the supervision ot the Dean as Director. I t has been proposed that, in view of the unanimity of professional and service interests, this Bureau be merged with the Department of City Planning and Landscape Architecture, beginning September I, 1954. All concerned have concurred in this consolidation, and I so recommend. On motion of Mr. Bissell, these recommendations were approved.
