ADJUSTMENTS IN SALARIES Upon recommendation of the Acting President, t h e Executive Committee has authorized adjustments in the salaries of t h e following: Earl R. Series, Professor of Pharmacy and Dean of the College of Pharmacy, increase from $15,050 t o $15,750 effective September 1, 1953. (In addition he will also receive compensation at t h e rate of $1,250 a year for services as Chairman of the Administrative Committee beginning September 1, 1953, and continuing as long as he serves in that capacity but not later than August 31, 1954.) Robert B. Browne, Professor of Education and Dean of the Division of University Extension and of t h e Summer Session, increase from $11,500 t o $12,500 effective September I, 1953. Robert Graham, Professor of Veterinary Pathology and Hygiene and Head of t h e Department, Professor of Veterinary Research and Head of the Department, and Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, increase from $11,850 to $12,500 effective September I, 1953. PURCHASES AUTHORIZED The following purchases were authorized by the Executive Committee on recommendation of the Director of Purchases and t h e Acting Comptroller, and with the concurrence of the Acting President of the University.

These particular purchases were presented to t h e Executive Committee because the Director of Purchases had advised the President's Office that t h e prices quoted might not stand until the meeting of the Board of Trustees on September 23 and that they might go up. ASSIGNMENT OF FUNDS Upon recommendation of t h e Acting President, t h e Executive Committee approved a nonrecurring assignment of $2,200 from the General Reserve Fund to the Physical Plant Department's truck and cars budget for the purchase of one five-passenger Studebaker Land Cruiser four-door sedan from C. L. Cochrun and Son, Champaign. SERVICES O F LEGAL COUNSEL AT KREBIOZEN INVESTIGATING COMMISSION HEARINGS On recommendation of the Acting President, Mr. Ralph F . Lesemann, Legal Counsel, has been authorized t o continue representing the interests of t h e University and of its officers in the hearings which have been resumed by the newly created Krebiozen Investigating Commission.

BUSINESS PRESENTED BY T H E PRESIDENT O F THE UNIVERSITY

The Board considered the following reports and recommendations from the Acting President of the University.

APPOINTMENT O F DEAN H E N N I N G LARSEN AS PROVOST OF THE UNIVERSITY (1) I recommend the appointment of Dr. Henning Larsen, now Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Professor of English, as Provost of the University on full time, beginning October 1, 1953, and continuing through August 31, 1955, and as Professor of English on indefinite tenure, a t a total salary of $17,200 on a twelvemonth service basis. Pending the appointment of a new Dean, the Executive Committee of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will administer its affairs.
