FROM 1868 TO 1904

During the thirty-seven years from 1868 to 1904 no large additions were made to the campus proper, and no additions were made to the acreage of the farm lands. The most important acquisition was that of nearly the entire tier of lots, 198 feet deep (from east to west), lying east of that portion of the campus which extended from Springfield Avenue to the north line of the "160 acre farm." Mathews Avenue was opened as far south as this line and thus became
