The Executive Committee submitted the following report.

MEETING O F T H E EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE O C T O B E R 3 , 1 9 5 6 A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the Sheraton-Blackstone Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, on Wednesday, October 3, 1956, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The following members were present: Mr. P a r k Livingston, Mrs. Frances B. Watkins, and Mr. H . B. Megran, Chairman. Also present were President David D. Henry, Mr. Henning Larsen, VicePresident and Provost, Mr. H. O. Farber, Vice-President and Comptroller, and Mr. A. J. Janata, Secretary of the Board. T h e Executive Committee considered the following item of business presented by the President of the University. Special Service A s s i g n m e n t for D e a n L . B . H o w a r d The University of Illinois has a contract with the International Cooperation Administration under which Illinois and four other universities supply technical assistance to institutions of higher education in India. Dean Louis B. H o w a r d has been asked to participate with the Deans of Agriculture of Ohio State University and Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science in a mission to India for approximately six weeks beginning October 7, 1956. The objectives of the trip will include a review of the work being done by University of Illinois representatives at various locations in India, consultation with Indian officials concerning the progress which has been made thus far, and discussions with University representatives to ascertain the future effectiveness of this program. I have authorized Dean H o w a r d to go to India for these conferences and have also authorized Dr. T. S. Hamilton, Associate Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station, to serve as Acting Dean of the College of Agriculture during the obsence of Dean Howard. On motion of Mr. Livingston, the action of the President was confirmed. T h e Committee adjourned.

PURCHASE OF AUTOMOBILES

The Secretary and the Comptroller reported that bids will be received subsequent to this meeting on the purchase of replacements for the University's motor vehicle fleet. It will be necessary to act on these bids before the next meeting of the Board of Trustees, and recommendations for the purchases will be submitted to the Executive Committee. The Board adjourned.
