UNIVERSITY O F ILLINOIS GENERAL RULES CONCERNING UNIVERSITY ORGANIZATION AND PROCEDURE EXPLANATORY NOTE To the Members of the Board of Trustees: In approving the Statutes, the Senate accepted the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Revision of the Statutes that only those sections in which the Senates of the University have an interest should be included in the University of Illinois Statutes, and that those sections which deal with administrative organization and the powers and responsibilities of administrative officers of the University should appear in a separate compilation, The General Rules Concerning University Organization and Procedure (sometimes called Part II in discussions of the Statutes). Amendments to the University of Illinois Statutes are to be adopted by the procedure set forth in Section 62 thereof. Amendments to The General Rules Concerning University Organization and Procedure are to be made by the Board of Trustees on the recommendation of the President. The Senates will not participate in the amending process. The compilation of The General Rules Concerning University Organization and Procedure was submitted to the Senate because it contains some sections which the University Senate had approved over the years. By approving this compilation, the Senate understood that it was divesting itself of its role in amending the sections. It was understood, however, that subject matter dealt with in The General Rules Concerning University Organisation and Procedure may be covered in amendments to the University of Illinois Statutes which the Senate may later propose. The University Senate met in a special session, July 29, 1957, called by President Henry, for the purpose of considering this compilation of The General Rules Concerning University Organization and Procedure. The texts of the sections were approved by the Senate and they are submitted to the Board of Trustees for consideration and adoption. Senate Committee on Revision of the University Statutes A. J.
