APPOINTMENT TO BOARD O F EXAMINERS IN ACCOUNTANCY (4) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends the appointment of Mr. William Charles Waggoner, of the firm of Touche, Niven, Bailey, and Smart, Chicago, as a member of t h e Board of Examiners in Accountancy, for a threeyear term beginning July 1, 1949, to succeed Mr. Charles R. Miller, whose term of office expired June 30, 1949. I concur in the recommendation. O n motion of M r . M c L a u g h l i n , this a p p o i n t m e n t w a s m a d e a s recommended. LEAVE O F ABSENCE FOR DEAN MIRIAM A. SHELDEN (5) Miss Miriam A. Shelden, Dean of Women, who is an officer in the Women's Reserve of the United States Navy, h a s been requested to return to active service for an indefinite period of time. I have authorized a leave of absence, without pay, from August 1 to November I, 1949, and request confirmation of this action with authorization t o extend this leave if the Navy requests h e r to continue in active service for a longer period. ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR COLLEGE O F VETERINARY MEDICINE (6) T h e Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine recommends the appointment of the following to the Advisory Committee of that College for the academic year 1949-1950:

I concur and recommend that they also be appointed or reappointed to the Citizens Committee of the University of Illinois in accordance with the practice of including all college advisory committees in the membership of the general committee. Doctor Legner is a new appointee. T h e others have been on the Committee before. Doctors C. R. Collins, Dixon, and George B. McKillip, Chicago, who were on the Committee last year, a r e not being reappointed in accordance with the practice of making gradual changes in the personnel of this Committee. O n m o t i o n of M r . N i c k e l l , t h i s c o m m i t t e e w a s a p p o i n t e d a s r e c ommended. EXCHANGE O F PROFESSORS (7) T h e Head of the Department of German requests authorization of the exchange of Professor J. Theodore Geissendoerfer of the University of Illinois with Professor Gilbert Waterhouse of Queens University, Belfast, Ireland. Tentatively the first semester of the academic year 1950-1951 has been selected for this exchange. I recommend approval and authorization to set up the terms of this exchange and other details, including a change in the period involved if this be deemed advisable upon further negotiations. Professor Geissendoerfer has been granted sabbatical leave for the second semester 1949-1950 which he is planning to spend in study and research in Europe. If this exchange arrangement goes through, he will remain abroad and serve on t h e faculty of Queens University while his replacement, Professor Waterhouse, is teaching at the University of Illinois.
