ing of steam to the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Medical Center District, all in accordance with the program heretofore approved as aforesaid, Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois hereby approve the proposed contract with the United States cf America represented by the Chief, Procurement Division, Supply Service, Veterans Administration, providing for the furnishing of steam to the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Medical Center District, Chicago, Illinois, and the Comptroller and the Secretary of this Board be and they hereby are authorized, empowered, and directed, in the name and on behalf of this Board, to execute and deliver such contract.

Dr. Meyer took his place with the Board during the presentation of this matter. The Comptroller discussed the provisions of this contract (see Appendix, page 882). On motion of Mr. Herrick, this resolution was adopted as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McLaughlin, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Nickell, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Hickman, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Stevenson.

INSTITUTE OF LABOR A N D INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Mr. Fornof reported the receipt of letters from representatives of management in Rockford with respect to the policies and program of the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. After discussion, President Williamson requested the Committee on General Policy to attend the next meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Institute, and all members of the Board to attend if possible.

CASE OF VIRGINIA KENNY VS. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Doctor Meyer inquired about the status of the Virginia Kenny litigation, a mandamus proceeding in which Miss Kenny, Medical Social Worker in the Social Service Department of the Research and Educational Hospitals, seeks to be restored to the position of Head of the Social Service Department. This matter was referred to the Committee on the Chicago Departments for consideration and advice to the Board. O P E N SESSION When the Board convened in open session after luncheon and inspection of the facilities at the Pier, the same members and officers were present as during the morning session.

MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT STODDARD

The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

STAFF AND PROGRAMS FOR 1 9 4 9 - 1 9 5 0 (1) T h e Provost has prepared a report on important additions to the staff and the educational programs for 1949-1950 (see Appendix, page 885).
