BOARD OF TRUSTEES GIFTS AND GRANTS OF FUNDS FOR RESEARCH AND OTHER PURPOSES

i. Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, $500, final installment of its grant of $2,500 for scholarships in Occupational Therapy during 1947-1948. 2. Chicago Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society, $2,500 for two scholarships a year ($250 a year each) for five years for students in the Illumination Option in Electrical Engineering. 3. Third Congressional District, Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, $1,320 to finance two students through the course in Occupational Therapy. These are the fifth and sixth scholarships which have been given by this organization ; these grants now total $3,960. 4. Estate of Dr. William Allen Pusey, Professor of Dermatology, $1,200 to be added to the dermatological library account of the College of Medicine. 5. Miss Helen M. Russell, Champaign, through the University of Illinois Foundation, $1,000 for the continuation of two $500 scholarships, one in music and the other in medicine, during the year 1948-1949. 6. Mr. Victor S. Yarros, Lajolla, California, $1,000 in support of a scholarship in the name of his wife, Dr. Rachelle S. Yarros (a former member of the staff of the College of Medicine), in the College of Medicine. 7. Mr. Robert Allerton, $800 for continuation of the Allerton Traveling Scholarships in Architecture during the summer of 1948. 8. Harnischfeger Corporation, Chicago, a new Type TH-300 portable A-C welder to the Department of Electrical Engineering. 9. Mrs. Kitty Pierce Harrington, LaGrange, $500 for continuation of the Phyllis Pierce Ruettinger Scholarship during 1048-1949. 10. Mr. John W. Ruettinger, Chicago, $500 for continuation of the John C. Ruettinger Memorial Scholarship during 1948-1949. 11. American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, a Rockwell Kent painting entitled "Light for Tomorrow's Lincolns," for the Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering. 12. Friends of the late Professor Cullen W. Parmelee, $452.59 as the C. W . Parmelee Fund for loans to students in Ceramic Engineering. 13. Illinois Salon Departmental La Boutique des Huit Chapeaux et Quarante Femmes, $413 for the purchase of two Colson cripple carts, two Colson wheel chairs, one small walker, and one medium walker for children patients in the Research and Educational Hospitals. 14. Christmas Neighbors Club of Prairie Farmer Station, W L S : one American Compere orthopaedic walker, child's size, two Colson juvenile wheel chairs, and one Philco table model radio and phonograph, to the Research and Educational Hospitals. 15. Mayflower Guild, First Congregational Church, Oak Park, Illinois, a Royalty Bakelite table model radio for the Research and Educational Hospitals. 16. Conco Engineering Works, Mendota, Illinois, to the Department of Mechanical Engineering: one Conco Breese burner No. HB7DGS, one thermostat 411, and one demonstrator unit complete with oil tank and accessories, for instructional purposes. 17. Women's District Grand Lodge No. 6, B'nai B'rith, Chicago, $100 as a prize to be awarded to the senior in the Department of History who has the highest scholastic average among graduating seniors who have majored in history, to be known as "The Dr. Abram Leon Sachar Prize in History." The Lodge has offered to make this an annual contribution. 18. Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers, $75-50 to be added to the Cora C. Bright Memorial Loan Fund. 19. Ladies Auxiliary, Spanish American W a r Veterans, Department of Illinois, $50 for the woman student who has the highest scholastic standing in her first year of work in H o m e Economics. 20. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Higgins, Evergreen Park, Illinois, $50 for the benefit of pediatrics patients in the Research and Educational Hospitals. 21. Gamma Phi Beta sorority, $32.25 for undergraduate scholarship funds.
