A three-unit M a t h e m a t i c s (algebra, general and a two-unit mathematics, commercial arithgroup chosen metic, or geometry) 2 units from foreign History I unit language, Civics, economics, or social science yi unit or -{ mathematics, history, Science, two years (including bibiological, ology or general science and a physical, or second science, preferably chemsocial istry or applied chemistry or physics) 2 unitsj sciences 5 units Electives byi or 7 units c. Average grade requirement. Emphasis is placed upon high scholastic attainments of applicants and selection is made from students ranking in the upper half of their classes and on the basis of information revealed by psychometric tests. It is expected that candidates have the ability to carry work on a college level. 5. Curriculum of Cook County School of Nursing. The curriculum is standard for all schools approved by the National League of Nursing Education. It consists of the usual amounts of basic science including anatomy, physiology, chemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and the chemistry of nutrition, a substantial block of social science, and the principles of medicine and medical nursing. It is presently deficient in the humanities. The last year and a half consist of both didactic and practical work in nursing with increasing emphasis on nursing in the hospital and in the community and the techniques associated therewith. The course can be completed in a period, varying from 28 to 36 months in length, depending upon the student's previous academic preparation. 6. Recommendation by the University Committee on Fees and Scholarships and approval by the Board of Trustees to adopt the present scale of fees of the Cook County School of Nursing. (Note: The Committee has already taken action to adopt this proposal in principle.) 7. It is understood that the Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges may initiate, in consultation with the Dean or Director of the Schools of Nursing, a. Recommendations for new staff members or replacements for the united schools; b. Changes in curriculum ; c. Changes in fee schedules; d. Effective methods of supervision of the courses of instruction; each of these items being subject to study and further action by the appropriate University agencies. 8. The agreements reached in these several respects shall hold for the biennium of 1049-1951 and are subject to review before the next biennial period. 9. The Senate Committee on Educational Policy will recommend the adopt-on in principle of the following pre-professional curriculum, admission requirements for which must meet the entrance requirements of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences general curriculum and the requirements for the respective courses in the curriculum: Pre-professional courses as specified. A minimum of sixtv semester hours as outlined below. No degree shall be granted unless the student qualifies for the State Board examination. Semester Minimum Requirements Hours Rhetoric and Composition 6 Social Science (introductory course in Sociology and Psychology) 12 Humanities (general course) 6 Chemistry (one year general and one semester organic) 10 Biological Sciences (including course in Bacteriology) 8 Physics 4 (It is expected that a student will have a general knowledge of the major topics in physics which may be covered in a special course designed for the program or from a full year of college physics.)
