fund of $1,000,000 will be used for the construction costs of the Center and for initial operating costs. The Executive Committee is now pushing plans to select a site for the Center, presumably in the City of Chicago, to find a Director of the Center, and to perfect the other arrangements necessary to such a large enterprise. T h e Inter-Library Center is one of the most forward steps ever taken in the regional organization of resources for scientific, cultural, and scholarly work. Little-used materials in the participating libraries will be housed in the Center. By this concentration at the Center, a great research library can be established, but at the same time the participating institutions will be able to expand their holdings in the areas that are most useful for their own facilities. Full coordination with and speedy exchange between the participating libraries give dramatic promise of more useful service to research and scholarship throughout the midwest area.
