be appointed by the Board of Trustees of the University, two by the Board of the Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium, and the fifth member to be elected by the other four. The 65th General Assembly also appropriated funds to the Department of Public Health for constructing and equipping a building and funds to the Department of Finance for the purchase of land. The University will request legislation transferring to the University title to the land on which the building is now being erected. The Vice-President in Charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges has submitted on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Institution for Tuberculosis Research a proposed operating budget for the biennium of 1949-1951, totaling $143,000, with the request that the Board of Trustees submit this budget to the Department of Finance. This amount is required for: Heating, lighting, and maintaining the new building $ 61 000 Salaries, wages, supplies, and equipment 82 000 Total $143 000 The $32,000 appropriated by the General Assembly for 1947-1949 was for salaries, supplies, and equipment for only an eight- or nine-month period during 1048-1949. I recommend that the Board of Trustees authorize the transmittal of this request to the Department of Finance of the State of Illinois.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, this budget was approved as recommended for transmittal to the State Department of Finance.

STATUS OF ACADEMY FOR UNITED STATES AIR FORCE

President Stoddard reported informally on the status of plans for an Academy for the United States Air Force (Minutes, October 21, 1948, page 138) to the effect that no decision has been made looking to the establishment of such an academy.

The date of the annual meeting was discussed, and some members stated that Tuesday, March 8, 1949, would be inconvenient to them, and that Thursday, March 10, 1949, was an acceptable date. The By-Laws provide that the date of the annual meeting may be changed by the Board (Article I, Section 1). On motion of Dr. Meyer, the date of the annual meeting for 1949 was changed to Thursday, March 10, as provided in the By-Laws of the Board. The Board adjourned.
