MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT STODDARD

The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

NEW FIRE STATION (1) The building appropriation requests for 1949-1951 include $250,000 for a new fire station. The State Fire Marshal has offered to secure a supplementary appropriation of $450,000 from the fire prevention fund in the State Treasury to provide additional facilities in this building, particularly an auditorium with seating capacity of 800 to be used for meetings of organizations interested in fire protection, schools of instruction, equipment displays, and quarters for representatives of the State Fire Marshal. The University is asked to assume: 1. Cost of preparing plans, specifications, and supervision of construction. 2. Cost of land required. 3. Complete operation and maintenance costs for the structure and the grounds. 4. Salaries of fire fighting personnel and cost of truck operation. 5. Responsibility for the assignment of space on the first floor of the building with the privilege of making use of the auditorium and basement area for University functions, provided there are no conflicts with events scheduled by the State Fire Marshal's Office or the Illinois Firemen's Association.
