I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this addition to the contract.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, authority was given as recommended.

ADDITION TO CONTRACT FOR REMODELING OF DAVID KINLEY HALL (14) The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend an increase of $1,800 in the general contract with E. N . DeAtley for the remodeling of David Kinley Hall for additional work on the ground floor room and in the elevator shaft in the attic to provide additional classroom space. Funds are available for this increase. I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this addition to the contract.

On motion of Mr. Davis, authority was given as recommended.

ADDITION TO PLUMBING CONTRACT FOR STUDENT AND STAFF APARTMENTS (15) The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend an increase of $6,949 in the contract with E. M. Hays, Champaign, for the plumbing work in the construction of the student and staff apartments, Urbana, to provide for the installation of a fire protection system. Funds are available. I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this change in the contract.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, authority was given as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR REMODELING PHYSICAL EDUCATION FACILITIES AT CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION (16) On November 19, 1948 (Minutes, page 174), the Board of Trustees approved an appropriation of $35,000 for remodeling at Navy Pier to provide additional physical educational facilities. Bids have been received on the construction work needed on the Auditorium in connection with this project. The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend award of the contract to E. H . Marhoefer, Jr., Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, in the amount of $12,833. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute the contract.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, authority was given as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR BUILDING ALTERATIONS IN THE RESEARCH AND EUCATIONAL HOSPITALS (17) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures has made a recommendation for an appropriation of $110,000 for building improvements requested by the College of Medicine in the Department of Physical Medicine. The work will consist of remodeling in the general hospital building and the Illinois Surgical Institute building, and the construction of an enclosed passageway in which certain offices will be located between the two buildings. If the Board approves the appropriation, the Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract in the amount of $86,675 to E. H . Marhoefer, Jr., Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, this contract was awarded as recommended.

W O M E N ' S RESIDENCE HALLS REVENUE BONDS

At this point, Mr. Williamson presented the following report and recommendations of the Finance Committee, with a resolution providing for the issue of "$800,000 Women's Residence Halls Revenue Bonds of 1949," and for the sale of the bonds to Shields and Company, and Eastman, Dillon, and Company, on their joint bid.
