BOARD OF TRUSTEES

HEAD O F THE DEPARTMENT OF ART (8) A committee of the Department of A r t and the Dean of the College of Fine and Applied A r t s recommend the appointment of Dr. Frank J. Roos, now P r o fessor of A r t History at Ohio State University, to the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Art, on indefinite tenure, at an annual salary of $6,000, effective September 1, 1946. This appointment is to replace Professor James G. V a n Derpool, who has resigned to accept a position at Columbia University. I concur in this recommendation.

On motion of Mr. Fornof, this appointment was made as recommended.

APPOINTMENT OF HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (9) I recommend that Professor Norman Alwyn Parker, now Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder, be appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Head of the Department at the University of Illinois, on indefinite tenure, effective September 1, 1046, at an annual salary of $8,500.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, this appointment was made as recommended.

EXCHANGE OF PROFESSORS FRED C. HOOD AND AMIR BOKTOR (10) Dr. Fred C. Hood, Assistant High School Visitor with the rank of Associate Professor, has been offered a position in the American University at Cairo. Egypt, as an exchange professor for a period of approximately ten months of the school year, 1946-1947. In exchange, t h e University of Illinois will have the services of Professor Amir Boktor of the American University at Cairo. The exchange plan will necessitate Doctor Hood's absence from the University of Illinois during the period beginning approximately September 1, 1946, and ending July 1, 1947. Under the provisions of this plan Doctor Hood will receive his salary from the University of Illinois during the period of his absence. His replacement, Doctor Boktor, will receive his salary from the American University at Cairo during the time that he is serving as an exchange professor at the University of Illinois. H e will be assigned to teaching duties in the College of Education and will also be given an opportunity during the academic year 19461947 to visit selected high schools with a member of the staff of the High School Visitor's Office and to participate in regional educational conferences sponsored by that office. Doctor Hood's duties will be distributed among other members of the High School Visitor's staff at no additional expense to the University. The High School Visitor recommends approval of this exchange arrangement and I concur.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, this arrangement was approved as recommended.

AWARD OF CERTIFICATES OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (11) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded the following who have made applications therefor under the Accountancy Act of 1943 and who have presented evidence to the Committee that they are properly qualified: 1. Candidates who hold the certificate of Public Accountant in Illinois received on the basis of the regular semi-annual routine examination given by the Board of Examiners of the Department of Registration and Education (Section 4 a - 2 ) :
