31. Abbott Laboratories, $1,000 in support of research work on the "Effects of Reduced Pressure on Stomach and Intestines," being carried on by Professor F. R. Steggerda of the Department of Zoology and Physiology. 32. In connection with the publication of the "Illinois Cancer Bulletin," of which Vice-President A. C. Ivy is Editor, the following contributions have been received: American Cancer Society, Inc., Illinois Division, $9,000; Anonymous, $5,000; the Wander Company, Chicago, $1,000. 33. National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, Inc., $3,500 for research with poliomyelitis patients using the electromyograph, under the direction of VicePresident A. C. Ivy, for one year beginning July 1, 1047. 34. The Wander Company, Chicago, $1,000 in support of research work in nutrition during 1947, under the direction of Vice-President A. C. Ivy. 35. Dr. Arthur J. Atkinson, Chicago, $500 to be added to "The Atkinson Fund" for research on the alimentary tract under the supervision of VicePresident A. C. Ivy in the College of Medicine. 36. Merck & Company, $500 for a study of antihistamine compounds under the supervision of Vice-President A. C. Ivy. 37. Mrs. Peter Miller, Chicago, $7,000 in support of research on epilepsy by Dr. Frederic A. Gibbs, Professor of Psychiatry. 38. Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, $2,000 in support of a cancer research fellowship in the College of Medicine. 39. Armour and Company, $3,200 for research on hematology by Dr. R. W. Keeton, Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine, for one year from November 1, 1945. This is an extension of previous research, the grant for which

40. Armour Laboratories, Chicago, $2,650 in support of studies on protein hydrolysates by Dr. W. H. Cole, Professor and Head of the Department of Surgery. 41. Hoffman-La Roche, Inc., Nutley, New Jersey, with offices in Chicago, $2,500 a year, for a period of two years beginning July 1, 1046, in support of a fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology under the direction of Dr. C. C. Pfeiffer; $1,800 to be used as a stipend for the fellow and $700 for equipment, supplies, and miscellaneous expenditures in connection with the research program. 42. Bristol Laboratories, Syracuse, New York, $2,000 additional to complete the study of insoluble penicillin derivatives under the direction of Professor C. C. Pfeiffer, Department of Pharmacology. 43. Mallinckrodt Chemical Works, St. Louis, Missouri, $2,000 in support of research on the pharmacological action of alkyl carbonates and various other complex organic derivatives which it is felt may have activity as general analgesic compounds, which was carried on under the direction of Dr. C. C. Pfeiffer, P r o fessor of Pharmacology, during the period July 1 through December 31, 1946. 44. Ridge Service Guild, Chicago, $500 to be added to the Orthopaedic Gift Fund for Children for the purchase of equipment and for research studies. 45. W a r Memorial Committee of the Drama Club of Evanston, $500 in support of research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery under the direction of Professor F. A. Chandler. 46. Josiah Macy, Jr., Foundation, New York City, $5,500 for the continuation of research in the Department of Psychiatry for one year from October I, 1945, by Dr. W. S. McCulloch. 47. Life Insurance Medical Research Fund, $300 for special laboratory expenses in connection with their Grant No. SF-47-4 to Mr. John M. Marshall, Jr., who is working under the supervision of Dr. George E. Wakerlin, Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine. 48. Grants for research in allergy antigens (research program of Dr. B. Z. Rappaport, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Dr. William H . Welker, P r o fessor and Head of the Department of Biological Chemistry, College of Medicine) from: Mr. Philip S. Bloom in continued support of the Philip and May Bloom Allergy Research Fellowship, $1,800; Mr. Alfred D. Hornstein, for the continuation of the Hornstein Research Fellowship, $000; Mr. William Meyer, $300; Dr. M. G. Lapham, Dean of Tulane University School of Medicine, in memory of Mrs. Anne Senear, $10.
