The opening of the 16-bed convalescent unit for the use of these patients will result in extra expense to various departments of the Hospital and the Physical Plant. The Business Manager of the Chicago Colleges recommends that the estimated income of the University be increased by $12,945, and that temporary assignments be made as follows: Research and Educational Hospitals: Administration: Expense $2 636 Wages 600 $ 3 236 Nursing—Wages 4 272 Dietary Department—Expense 2 589 Central Supply—Expense 259 Total, Research and Educational Hospitals ? i o 356 Physical Plant 2 589 Total #12 945 The Comptroller concurs in this recommendation, and approval of the increased appropriations is requested.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, these recommendations were adopted, and the appropriation was made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Davis, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Livingston, Dr. Luken, Mr. McKelvey, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Nickell.

SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (18) T h e Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1. Equipment for College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.. #22 000 2. Equipment for College of Engineering 25 000 3. Building studies and campus plan studies for the housing program in the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy 25 000 Total #72 000 Reports from the Committee explaining the reasons for each of these items are attached.

On motion of Mr. Fornof, these appropriations were made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Davis, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Livingston, Dr. Luken, Mr. McKelvey, Dr. Meyer, Air. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Nickell.

CONTRACT FOR ERECTION OF BOILER A N D MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT FOR ADDITION TO POWER PLANT (19) Bids were received and publicly opened at 2:00 p.m. October 8, 1946, for the erection of boiler and miscellaneous equipment in connection with the addition to the power plant. Bids received are summarized as follows: Oberle-Jordre Company #38,507 (See Note A) American Boiler & Tank Co 45.75° (Firm proposal) Henry Pratt Company 48,790 (See Note B) Note A: Subject to escalation in prices and certain other additional expense. Note B: "This amount is based on an estimated average hourly labor rate of $1.85. Should the actual average hourly labor rate (total COMPANY payrolls divided by total hours worked) paid by the COMPANY for the erection of this contract vary from that given above, the amount to be paid by the PURCHASER for the erection shall be increased or decreased proportionately. "If during the performance of work covered by this Proposal, the local labor crafts employed have duly authorized, recognized and approved rulings requiring the payment of carfare, expense and/or other compensation besides wages for work performed, the Company shall be reimbursed for such extra expense at actual cost, plus 15 per cent."
