AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS IN GENERAL DENTAL CLINIC ROOM (10) The following bids have been received for lighting improvements in the General Dental Clinic Room No. 962 of the Dentistry, Medicine, and Pharmacy Building: Construction Electric Company, Chicago $575488 Rossett Electric Company, Chicago 5 961 00 Hyre Electric Company, Chicago 5 978 36 Kil-Bar Electric Company, Chicago 6 555 00 The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend the award of the contract to the lowest bidder, the Construction Electric Company, in the amount of $5,754.88. Funds have been budgeted for this improvement. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. McLaughlin, this contract was awarded and authority given as recommended.

AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR AIR-CONDITIONING INSTALLATION IN ROOM 1 5 7 NATURAL HISTORY BUILDING (11) The following bids have been received for an air-conditioning installation in Room 157 Natural History Building. This space is used for photosynthesis research by Professor Robert Emerson. The humidity is so high in the summer months that it is impossible to make necessary electrical measurements. Airconditioning will reduce humidity and make possible continuation of the research during the summer: Proposal 1 Proposal 2 Name of Bidder Base Bid V-Belt Drive Mid-State Engineering Company, Champaign ?5 823 +?2I2 F. R. Inskip & Company, Champaign 4 385 +185 Bloomer Heating & Ventilating Company, Chicago 6 070 + 196 Professor Emerson, the Comptroller, and the Director of the Physical Plant Department recommend acceptance of the lowest bids on Proposals 1 and 2 of F. R. Inskip and Company in the total amount of $4,570. Funds are available for this installation. I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute a contract with F . R. Inskip and Company for $4,570.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, this contract was awarded and authority given as recommended.

AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR PRACTICE ORGANS (12) On September 26, 1947 (Minutes, page 827), the Board appropriated $18,000 for the purchase of practice organs in the School of Music to replace two practice organs. Tentative specifications were prepared and submitted to several builders, discussions were carried on with those interested, and inspections were made of organs of various builders. The Director of the School of Music recommends that a contract for the two organs be made with Aeolian-Skinner Organ Company of Boston, Massachusetts, through their Chicago representative, Mr. Walter D. Hardy. The University has had experience with organs built by six makers, including Aeolian-Skinner Company which built the organ in Smith Music Hall. This organ has been the most satisfactory mechanically of any organ at the University. Less mechanical difficulty has been experienced and it has stood up well under the strain of constant playing to which University organs are subjected. From a
