UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

a Small Homes Council house constructed in 1947 as a research project financed in part by University funds and in part by a grant from the United States Department of Commerce. T h e University's investment is $15,613.22, T h e sale price authorized by the Board, based upon appraisals, was $13,500. A contract for sale was executed by the University and by Mr. and Mrs. Cantrell. They now request that they be released from the contract for several reasons which, however, are immaterial, since cancellation is of mutual interest to both parties. The University administration is no longer interested in the sale of University-owned residence properties in view of the renewed need, which is bound to increase, for faculty housing. T h e sale of the house to Mr. and Mrs. Cantrell was authorized by the Board because a commitment had been made to them prior to the decision to discontinue disposing of residence properties. Under the circumstances, the Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend cancellation of this contract, and I concur.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, cancellation of this contract was authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Bissell, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Megran, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Stratton.
