The Board considered the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University.

APPOINTMENTS T O THE FACULTY (1) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. 1. LUDWIG BAUER, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, in the College of Pharmacy, beginning September 1, 1955, at an annual salary of $6,000 ( D ) . 2. MILDRED BONNELL, Associate Professor of Home Economics, beginning October I I t 9SS, at an annual salary of $6,200 ( B ) . 3. ALONZO CHURCH, George A. Miller Visiting Professor of Philosophy, beginning September 16, 1956, at an annual salary of $13,000 ( E ) . 4. LLOYD G. HUMPHREYS, Visiting Professor of Psychology, beginning September !. !955. at a salary of $4,750 (G, five months). 5. JOSEPH KASTELIC, Professor of Animal Nutrition, in the Department of Animal Science (College and Station), beginning January I, 1956, at an annual salary cf $12,000 ( A Y ) . 6. L. JACKSON LASLETT, Visiting Research Professor of Physics, beginning September 1, 1955, at an annual salary of $10,400 ( D Y ) . 7. HAROUN MAHROUS, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, beginning March 1, 1956, at an annual salary of $6,000 ( D ) . 8. ANDREW SCHILLER, Assistant Professor of English, in the Division of Humanities, Chicago Undergraduate Division, beginning September 1, 1955, at an annual salary of $5,600 ( B ) . 9. ARTHUR SKUPA, Assistant Professor in the Admitting Clinic and in the Department of Full and Removable Partial Dentures, in the College of Dentistry, beginning September 1, 1955, at an annual salary of $7,000 ( B Y ) . DORSEY, Visiting Nurse, beginning September 6, 1955, at an annual salary of $3,300. 2. JAMES R. HARLAN, Electronics Engineer in the Department of Physics (Betat r o n ) , beginning September 15, 1955, at an annual salary of $5,100. 3. GEORGE W . HOVLAND, Stores Supervisor in the Physical Plant Department, Chicago Professional Colleges, beginning August 8, 1955, at an annual salary of $4,320. 4. BARBARA J O JIPSON, Television Writer-Producer in the Department of Broadcasting, Chicago Professional Colleges, beginning August 29, 1955, at an annual salary of $4,200. 5. G. LIONEL KRAMER, Supervisor of Sports Broadcasts, Radio Station, beginning September 6, 1955, at an annual salary of $4,800. 6. MARY J. VIBERT, Assistant to Social Director at the Chicago Mini Union, beginning September 13, 1955, at an annual salary of $3,120. O n m o t i o n of M r . HEADSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENT OF A N A T O M Y

(2) The Dean of the College of Medicine and the Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges recommend the appointment of Dr. Samuel R. M. Reynolds, presently on the staff of the Department of Embryology at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, as Professor and Head of the Department of Anatomy in the College of Medicine on indefinite tenure beginning January I, I95&' at an annual salary of $14,000 on " A Y " basis. This appointment is to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. Arthur Kirschbaum in 1954- I n t ' i e meantime Dr. Parke H . Simer has been serving as Acting Head of the Department. Dr. Reynolds has been nominated unanimously by a search committee appointed in April, 1954, to canvass the field of possible candidates for this position. Dr. Reynolds has visited the Chicago Professional Colleges twice and has met all the members of the staff in the Department of Anatomy as well as several other
