wood, Inc., Champaign, which will be leased to the University through the University of Illinois Foundation, for housing undergraduate women. Services will include analysis and planning of space use in the apartment units, the recreation areas, and quarters for the housemothers; design and assignment of space for built-in wall cabinets, desks, wall-hung bolsters, fixed lighting, and similar installations; selection of furniture, floor coverings, fabrics, draperies, pictures, lamps, bedspreads, sofa pillows, and other necessary items; inspection and supervision of placement of all furnishings and equipment. The furnishings and equipment will be selected and designed for maximum utilization if and when residence units are converted into apartments. The proposed fee is $4,500, or approximately 5 per cent of the cost of the furnishings. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute the contract.

On motion of Mr. Bissell, this contract was awarded and the Comptroller and Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute the same.

ARCHITECTS FOR PLANT SCIENCES BUILDING (21) T h e University has a state appropriation of $40,000 for studies and preliminary plans for a plant sciences building. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend that the firm of Naess and Murphy of Chicago be employed as architects for this building. This firm will furnish complete architectural services at the same rate charged for other University buildings, namely, 6 per cent of the contract costs. F o r the initial preliminary study phase only, the firm will charge actual costs plus 100 per cent for overhead and commission but not to exceed $35,000. If the General Assembly appropriates funds for the construction of this building and the project proceeds to completion, Naess and Murphy will allow credit for payments made for the preliminary work in the total fee. I submit a report from the Physical Plant Department in support of its recommendation, a copy of which is hereby filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r .
