C U R R I C U L U M IN MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY (3) T h e University Senate recommends the establishment of a curriculum in Medical Technology leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, to be offered in the College of Medicine. T h e program of instruction will cover twelve full months and will include routine clinical laboratory procedures, hematology, bacteriology, parasitology, serology, basal metabolism, blood and urine chemistry, and tissue technic; classroom and laboratory instruction in biological chemistry, bacteriology, and clinical pathology; and special lectures and conferences. Requirements for admission to the course will be graduation with a bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university, including eight semester hours of work in biology (of which at least four must be in zoology), at least eight hours of general inorganic chemistry (including four hours of laboratory w o r k ) , at least four hours of organic chemistry (including laboratory), and three hours of quantitative analysis. Physics and biology are highly recommended as desirable courses. F o r the present, because of limitations of laboratory facilities, registration is to be restricted to eight students per year, and preference will be given to residents of the State of Illinois. T h e curriculum is set up in response to requests from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and is based on their recommendations. It is designed to regularize the training of laboratory technicians. CONTRACTS FOR COAL, URBANA DEPARTMENTS, 1 9 4 5 - 1 9 4 6 (4) Requests for quotations on 30,000 tons of screenings coal on uniform specifications supplied were sent to all mines located in the Danville and central Illinois fields. Classified advertisements were placed in the metropolitan papers, and bids were opened July 16, 1945. No quotations were received for coal to be supplied according to specifications. T h e Earl Green Trucking Company, Wilmington, Illinois, offered to supply coal at a delivered price of $6.50 a ton. Taylor-English Coal Company offered 15,000-17,000 tons lJ4"-2" screenings, Danville District, at $2,397 a ton f.o.b. mine; contract to provide for adjustments up or down in accordance with State or Federal regulations and ceiling prices, and an addition of a State tax of 40 a ton after September 1, 1945, provided by H.B. 210 which was passed by both houses of the Legislature but has not been acted on by the Governor. Freight is 6o£ a ton, making a delivered price of $2,997 a ton. T h e Purchasing Agent, the Director of the Physical Plant Department, and the Comptroller recommend that the contract be placed with the Taylor-English Coal Company as above described, subject to the approval of the Governor as required by the State Constitution. I concur and recommend approval.

The Comptroller presented this matter. On motion of Mr. Nickell, the contract was authorized as recommended.
