BEQUEST OF MARTHA BELLE BARRETT (5) T h e following assets have been received as the result of the termination of a trust created under the will of Martha Belle Barrett, originally reported January 26, 1934 (Minutes, page 438); United States bonds (par value $4,500) market value $4 521 26 Principal cash 167 18 Total $4 688 44 T h e decrease from the amount of $5,000 specified in the will is due to the payment of the Missouri State Inheritance T a x and the fees of the Trustee. T h e endowment thus created is to establish the Martha Barrett Scholarship in American History under rules and conditions to be prescribed by the University. Such rules will be prescribed after the matter has had more study.

Mr. Janata presented this matter for the President. This report was received for record.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (6) T h e Purchasing Agent has proposed and the Comptroller recommends the following purchases. Unless otherwise specified the purchase in each case is recommended on the basis of lowest bids, ceiling prices, or because the items are noncompetitive. I concur in the recommendatio'ns. 1. One RCA-type E M U Universal model electron microscope, for the Executive Dean of the Chicago Colleges, from the Radio Corporation of America, Chicago, at a cost of $13,000. 2. One specially constructed H a r v a r d scientific treadmill, complete with gears, motors, and platform, for the Department of Medicine, from the Harvard Medical School Machine Shop,.Boston, at a cost of $1,815 f.o.b. factory. 3. T w o Edison electric voicewriters (dictating machines) and four Miracle Ediphone transcribing machines, for the Office of Nonacademic Personnel, from Edwin C. Barnes and Bros., Chicago, at a total cost of $790 and $840 respectively, f.o.b. Urbana. 4. One Ford-Ferguson tractor (complete with plow, disk, cultivator, mower, speeder box, scoop, snow plow, and w e e d e r ) , for the Departments of Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy, from the Cromer-Motor Co., Naperville, at a cost of $1,880.59 delivered, tax included. 5. Screenings coal, 1300 tons, for the Physical Plant Department, from the Taylor-English Coal Company, Danville, at a cost of $3,835.

The Comptroller presented this matter for the President. On motion of Dr. Meyer, these purchases were authorized as recommended.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (7) T h e following purchases were recommended by the Purchasing Agent and authorized by the Comptroller. Unless otherwise specified the purchases were made on the basis of lowest bids, ceiling prices, or because the items are noncompetitive. Emergency action was necessary to secure delivery in time to meet specific needs or because prices quoted were subject to immediate acceptance. 1. Eleven items of precious metals for student course outfits to be issued to N.C.T.P. and civilian students, for the Student Supply Store, from the following firms: T h o m a s J. Dee & Co. (two items), $269.60; General Refineries (five items), $2,771.80; Goldsmith Bros. Smelting & Refinery Co. (three items), $606; I. Stern & Co. (two items), $1,430;—total, $5,077.40. 2. P y r e x laboratory glassware, 270 cases, for the General Chemical Stores, as follows: 153 cases from Wilkens-Anderson Co., Chicago, at a cost of $2,023.40; 117 cases from A. S. Aloe and Co., Chicago, at a cost of $1,743-5°l"~" total, $3,766.90. 3. One "Precision" blood plasma shelling and dehydrating machine, complete in steel cabinet with accessories, for the Department of Bacteriology and Public Health, from the Precision Scientific Company, Chicago, at a cost of $3,500.
