UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS SALARIES FOR SUMMER QUARTER SERVICES IN CHICAGO COLLEGES

467

(28) On April 8, 1044, the Board of Trustees authorized the payment of additional compensation to the faculties in the Chicago Colleges for teaching during the summer quarter of 1944, which service was in addition to that required of them under their contracts. Normally service is required during the two semesters of the academic year beginning in September and ending in June, but the Chicago Colleges are now operating on a four-quarter basis, so that it is necessary to call on some members of the faculty to teach during twelve months of the year. I recommend that the Board authorize payment of the additional compensation during the summer, on the basis of ten per cent of the annual salary, to be distributed over the months of June, July, and August, 1945, and that an appropriation of $40,000 be made from the General Reserve Fund for this purpose. O n motion of D r . Meyer, this appropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Davis, M r . Fornof, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McKelvey, Dr. Meyer, M r . Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, M r s . Grigsby, D r . Luken, M r . McLaughlin, M r . Nickell.
