members of the staff entered the service, of whom more than seven hundred fifty made the supreme sacrifice. The thousands of pages of the records of the meetings of this Board since July 1, 1934, give abundant evidence of the progress of the University as an educational institution and of the wisdom and skill of D r . Willard in conducting its affairs. As Dr. Willard reaches the end of his term of active service, the Board of Trustees acknowledges with great appreciation the substantial contribution he has made to the development of the University of Illinois, and directs its Secretary to make this statement a part of its permanent record, and to send a copy to Dr. Willard. For Dr. Willard and his gracious wife, the Board wishes many years of good health and happiness.

President Willard expressed his appreciation, and acknowledged the cooperation during his term as President, of the Board, the General Assembly and State officers, the public, the Alumni, and the members of the faculty and staff.
