GRADUATE DEGREES IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING (6) T h e Graduate School has proposed that hereafter degrees in Chemical Engineering be described as Master of Science in Chemical Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering. Heretofore these degrees have been in Chemistry. This involves no change in requirements but only in the description of degrees and has been approved by the University Senate. O n m o t i o n of M r . N i c k e l l , t h i s c h a n g e i n t e r m i n o l o g y w a s a u t h o r ized a s r e c o m m e n d e d . GRADUATE CURRICULUM IN JOURNALISM (7) T h e Executive Faculty of the Graduate School and the University Senate recommend the establishment of a graduate teaching program in the School of Journalism leading to the degree of Master of Science in Journalism as follows: 1. Admission.—Adherence to the general admission requirements of the Graduate School and a minimum of 20 hours of undergraduate work in Journalism. 2. Degree Requirements.—In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School for a master's degree, a candidate must complete satisfactorily the following: ( a ) A major consisting of four units in Journalism or three units in Journalism and one additional unit approved by the graduate adviser and the Dean of the Graduate School. ( b ) At least two units in a subject other than journalism. T h e following are recommended: F o r editorial students — history, political science, sociology, English, economics, psychology, and philosophy; for advertising and publication management students — economics, home economics, and business organization and operation. Other fields to be added on recommendation of the graduate faculty of the School of Journalism and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School. (c) A minimum of eight units. I recommend approval. CHANGE IN REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE OF LAW (8) T h e University Senate recommends the following requirements for admission to the three-year curriculum in Law effective for the fall term of 1947: 1. Graduation from an approved college or university, or the attainment of senior standing in such institution. 2. Attainment of a weighted grade average of at least 3.25. This is based on the grading system: A, B, C, D, and E, with A the highest grade, D the lowest passing grade, and E indicating failure. In computing scholastic averages these grades are assigned numerical equivalents — A, 5 ; B, 4 ; C, 3 ; D, 2 ; E, 1. The Senate's recommendation would be a change from the requirement of a weighted average of 3.0 (equal to C) to a weighted average of 3.25. O n m o t i o n of M r . D a v i s , t h e s e r e q u i r e m e n t s w e r e a p p r o v e d a s recommended. ADMISSION TO COLLEGE OF PHARMACY (9) T h e following statement and recommendation of a policy governing admissions to the College of Pharmacy has been submitted by the Executive Committee of that College and is concurred in by the Executive Dean of the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, and P h a r m a c y :
