University buildings to be constructed in the future, specifically the College of Veterinary Medicine building and College of Agriculture buildings. Bids were taken on January 21, but they were so much higher than the estimates that they were rejected. New bids were called for and received on January 25, and a tabulation thereof is submitted. Director Havens and Comptroller Morey recommend the award of the contract to the lowest bidder, Whetzel Brothers, at a guaranteed maximum price of $16,940, the contract to be on a cost basis, plus a fixed fee, total cost not to exceed the guaranteed maximum, the savings after allowing for the fixed fee to be divided 50-50 between the contractor and the University. I concur and recommend approval. O n motion of M r . Davis, this contract was awarded as recommended.

COMMERCIAL SPONSORSHIP O F BROADCASTS

M r . Livingston presented a letter from M r . Leslie C. Johnson, Director, Ninth District, National Association of Broadcasters, with reference to granting permission to commercial broadcasting stations in Illinois to do their own broadcasting of noteworthy sports and special events from University grounds a n d buildings. On motion of M r . Davis, this matter was referred to a special committee of the Board to confer with Director J. F . W r i g h t a n d make a recommendation to the Board. Mr. Livingston appointed the following committee: M r . Fornof, Chairman, M r . Williamson, M r . McKelvey (see report, page 1007).

BETATRON PATENTS A N D IMPROVEMENTS

T h e President of the University w a s requested to investigate a n d report on the status of patents on the betatron and improvements thereto, with special reference to the powers and interest of the University in constructing o r licensing the construction of these instruments.

LOCATION O F HEALTH A N D PHYSICAL EDUCATION BUILDING

Mr. Williamson presented a letter with respect to the location of the building for Health and Physical Education. This matter was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds. T h e Executive Committee adjourned.
