Housing Division to give operators of student houses, including fraternities and sororities, as much leeway as is possible consistent with minimum health and safety standards to make the necessary adjustments and changes. The University has received communications from representatives of fraternities and sororities and from operators of independent student homes, requesting modifications of these standards and exceptions in certain situations. Doubtless members of the Board have also received some of these communications. Inasmuch as the University is operating a Housing Division under regulations and procedures authorized by the Board of Trustees, I recommend that the questions which have been raised be referred to the Board Committee on Student Welfare and Activities. O n motion of M r . Davis, this matter was referred to the Committee on Student W e l f a r e and Activities for study and recommendation.

SUMMER SESSION ENROLLMENT, 1942

(44) A report on student registration in the Summer Session, as of June 18, 1942, in comparison with the final enrollment in the summer of 1941. (It should be noted that the figures for the summer of 1942 are not final, since further enrollments are being received and since there will be a second session beginning on July 20.) WAGE RATES FOR AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH WORKERS

At this point, M r . A d a m s presented a petition from the Agricultural Research W o r k e r s Union 23166, affiliated with the American Federation of Labor, concerning the rates of wages for that group. O n motion of M r . A d a m s , this matter was referred to the Committee on Civil Service and Employees for study in conference with the faculty committees in the same fields and for recommendation to the Board.

CANCELLATION OF UNCOLLECTIBLE STUDENT LOANS

Mr. Karraker, for the Finance Committee, presented a list of uncollectible student loans (total principal, $583.93) with a recommendation that they be written off. On motion of Mr. Karraker, these loans were cancelled.
