has been worked out for this degree is a modification of one formerly offered in the Department of Animal Husbandry for students whose major interest was in Animal Pathology and Hygiene. T h e modification consists essentially in some extension of the work in the major field, with corresponding decrease in supporting preparation from other divisions.

On motion of Mr. Fornof, the action of the President of the University in authorizing the award of this degree was approved and confirmed.

GRADUATE W O R K IN PHARMACY

(6) On recommendation of the Executive Faculty of the Graduate School, the University Senate has recommended the establishment of graduate curricula in Pharmacy leading to the degrees of Master of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy. The latter will be restricted for the present to work in Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Jensen, these degrees were authorized as recommended.

FEES FOR SUMMER COURSES IN COLLEGE OF PHARMACY (7) T h e College of Pharmacy has been authorized to offer a special eight-week teaching program during the summer of 1942 for approximately thirty students. ( T h e College of Pharmacy will not begin operating on a four-quarter basis until September, 1942.) I have authorized the following schedule of fees for this work and request confirmation of my action: Tuition for undergraduate residents of Illinois, $5 a credit hour, with a maximum of $20; tuition for undergraduate non-residents of Illinois, $10 a credit hour, with a maximum of $40. In addition, a student will pay one-fourth of the annual laboratory and building service fees (according to class level) and such laboratory and dispensary fees as apply to the courses in which he is registered.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, this action was approved and confirmed.

APPOINTMENT TO KATE NEAL KINLEY MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP (8) A report of the Committee on the Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship recommends the appointment of Miss Justine Emerson Fuller, of Urbana, as the eleventh Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellow, and Miss Adele Paulina Guntor, of Westville, as alternate. O n m o t i o n of M r s . G r i g s b y , t h e s e a w a r d s w e r e m a d e a s r e c o m mended. LEAVES OF ABSENCE (9) A recommendation that the following leaves of absence be granted members of the staff for the reasons and periods and under the conditions indicated in each case: W. E. Britton, Professor of Law, one year from September I, 1942, without pay, to enable him to accept a position with the law firm of Wilson and McIlvaine of Chicago. C. W . Clarke, Associate in Chemistry, one year from September 1, 1942, without pay, for the purpose of graduate study and completion of work for a doctor's degree. E. E. DeTurk, Professor of Soil Fertility, extension of his sick leave from April 15 to June 1, 1942, with pay. Grover C. Edwards, a laborer in the Department of Animal Husbandry, disability leave from February 9 (at noon) through March 31, 1942, with pay. Miss Edith Ramsey, N u r s e in the Dispensary of the Research and Educational Hospitals, sick leave, without pay, for one year from April 13, 1942.
