Garrigus, Assistant in Animal Husbandry, from March 4 through August 31, 1942. Bernt 0 . Larson, Instructor in General Engineering Drawing, from February 1 through August 31, 1042.

On motion of Mrs. Grigsby, these leaves were granted as recommended.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED SUPPLEMENTARY (23) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. O n e portable air compressor, gasoline engine driven, to replace a Schramm compressor purchased in 1935 and now beyond economical repair, from the Ingersoll-Rand Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,732.12 before allowing for salvage value of the old compressor. This equipment is for the Physical Plant Department and funds a r e available for the purchase. 2. 3,000 feet 12.75" diameter double thick insulation with 8 oz. canvas jacket, 32 oz. asbestos paper, and 16 gauge galvanized tie wires, from Paul J. Krez Company the lowest bidder, for Owens-Corning "Fiberglas" at their price of $6,060.

On motion of Mr. Adams, these purchases were authorized.

CHANGE IN HEADSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY (24) Professor John T . Buchholz, Head of the Department of Botany, has submitted his resignation as H e a d of the Department t o take effect immediately. H e has asked to be relieved of this administrative responsibility so that he may devote all of his time to teaching and research. T h e Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recommends: 1. T h a t the resignation of Professor Buchholz as Head of the Department of Botany be accepted and that he be continued as Professor of Botany on indefinite tenure effective March 1, 1942, at an annual salary of $6,000. 2. T h a t Professor Neil E . Stevens be appointed H e a d of the Department of Botany on indefinite tenure effective March 1, 1942, at an annual salarj- of $6,500.
