Comptroller's Report of Trust Funds Received 1. University of Illinois Foundation for Mini Union Building furnishings, $90,000. 2. United States Navy, Bureau of Supplies and Accounts, $2,700 additional for tests of riveted joints, which is being carried on by the College of Engineering. 3. General Foods Corporation, $1,200 additional for research on white corn hybrids by the Agricultural Experiment Station. 4. American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, $1,200 additional for summer cooling research. 5. Independent Hybrid Producers of Illinois, Inc., $1,100 additional for production and characteristics of hybrid corn research by the Agricultural Experiment Station. 6. DeKalb Agricultural Association, $600 additional for research on medium and long season hybrids by the Agricultural Experiment Station. 7. Standard Brands, Inc., $600 additional for research on the effects of yeast on the digestive tract by the College of Medicine. 8. American Societ3' of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, $525 additional for air-conditioning research. 9. New York University, $200 for scholarships in short course in safety education. 10. National Research Council, $150 for research on correlation between physical examination and flying success. (See page 145.) 11. American Legion Auxiliary of Illinois, $50 for promotion of small bore rifle practice, and $50 for award to student colonel. 12. Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign W a r s , $50 award to worthy K.O.T.C. student. 13. National Auxiliary of United Spanish W a r Veterans, Department of Illinois, $50 award to outstanding second-year basic course cadet. 14. Illinois Society of Engineers, $35 for Surveying Conference.

On motion of Mr. Adams, these gifts were accepted.

APPOINTMENTS TO FACULTY OF THE SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM (4) The following appointments to the faculty of the School of Journalism are recommended: 1. Leslie W. McClure, Assistant Professor, one year from September 1, 1040, at a salary of $3,000. 2. Laurence R. Campbell, Assistant Professor, one year from September 1, 1040, at a salary of $2,700.

On motion of Mr. Jensen, these appointments were made as recommended. At this point, President Pogue, being called from the room, asked Mr. Geary to preside.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED SUPPLEMENTARY (5) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Eight bowling alleys and accessories for Illini Union Building, from the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company, Chicago, at a cost of $12,176.55. 2. Unloading from car, transporting, and assembling Cyclotron Magnet Frame being fabricated by American Rolling Mill Company, by the Dennis Trucking Company of Indianapolis, at a net price of $1,054. This is to replace a previous authorization by the Board (Minutes, J u n e 28, 1940, page 997) that the contract for this work be given to English Brothers of Champaign at a price of $1,330. This firm was the lowest bidder on the basis of quotations received at that time, but subsequently the Purchasing Agent learned that the Dennis Company had handled a similar project for another
