University Statutes I have accepted this grant. The Head of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Surgery reports that this grant is actually an unsolicited gift to help in getting the new Institute under way. From the visit of the Head of the Medical Division its officials knew the University was interested in obtaining a fund, but no formal application or detailed data had been submitted. T h e grant will be paid in two installments—one when the University is ready to use it and the other as of April I, 1941, and any unused balance as of August 31, 1941, will revert to the Foundation.

On motion of Mr. Jensen, the acceptance of this gift was confirmed.

GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (20) The following report of gifts to the University: 1. American Medical Association, Council on Physical Therapy, $50 for research work on the physiological effects and the therapeutic possibilities of the red-infrared border rays in the Department of Physiology of the College of Medicine. 2. The Carnegie Institution at Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York, $45.50 to supplement previous grants from this and other agencies for the research work carried on during the summer by Professor John T. Buchholz, of the Department of Botany. 3. Atlas Powder Company, $240 additional for the expenses of the cooperative investigation of "Electrolytic Reductions," by the Engineering Experiment Station. 4. G. Frederick Smith Chemical Company, $750 for the renewal of a fellowship in Chemistry for the academic year 1940-1941. 5. American Dry Milk Institute, Inc., $600 additional for the continuation of Professor F . R. Steggerda's research program. 6. National Lime Association of Washington, D . C , #600 for an assistantship in the Department of Chemistry for X-ray studies of lime. 7. National Research Council, Division of Medical Sciences, $300 for hormonal studies of bird behavior by the Department of Zoology. 8. American Dairies, Incorporated (American Butter Company), $1,200 for two research assistantships for the purpose of continuing Professor F. L. Wynd's research program on the correlations between the various vitamins and other components in the plant, with specific reference to the bearing of these factors on animal metabolism. The Company will also contribute $600 for library and stenographic help and $500 for travel and conferences with other physiologists, biochemists, etc., but this money will be paid directly by the Company as needed. 9. M and R Dietetic Laboratories, Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, $6ao for the continuation of the research program on calcium utilization by the adult man, under the direction of Professors F . R. Steggerda and H. H. Mitchell. 10. Butler Manufacturing Company, $200 for research work on temperatures and pressure in the storage of soybeans by the Department of Agricultural Engineering. 11. Mr. Felix Gehrmann (brother of the late Dr. Adolph Gehrmann, for many years a member of the faculty of the College of Medicine), $500 for the establishment of a Gehrmann Historical Book Fund. It is understood that this gift is a continuation of one made last year for the purpose of purchasing old medical books and for their care and "rejuvenating covers." 12. The American Medical Association, $500 for research work by Dr. Percival Bailey, of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Surgery. 13. Champaign Business and Professional Women's Club, $300 for a loan fund. 14. Dr. Edwin L. Draper, Urbana, a portrait of his father, Andrew Sloan Draper, former President of the University of Illinois. Comptroller's Report of Gifts 1. Omega Beta Pi, $50 for special books for the Natural History Library. 2. Electric Auto-Lite Company, $825 for the continuation of the research assistantship in Chemistry. 3. Sears, Roebuck and Company, $500 for the continuation of a graduate fellowship in Commerce. 4. Sears, Roebuck and Company, $3,675 for the renewal of scholarships in A griculture. 5. American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, $1,050 for additional research in air conditioning.
