AMENDMENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS STATUTES M r . J o h n s t o n , f o r t h e C o m m i t t e e o n G e n e r a l P o l i c y , offered t h e following resolution a n d m o v e d its a d o p t i o n : On June 19, 1963, the President of the University transmitted to the Board of Trustees the actions of the Senates, with reference to proposed changes in the Statutes of the University which deal with academic freedom and tenure. By action of the Board, the recommendations were referred to the General Policy Committee for study and report. The General Policy Committee has reviewed the proposals and discussed them with the President and the Legal Counsel. The Committee finds itself in agreement with some of the proposals, but has modifications to suggest in others. It appears to the Committee that communication with the Senates might be expedited through informal conference with their representatives. Accordingly, it is recommended that the President of the University be requested to arrange a meeting on this subject, as soon as practicable, to be attended by the General Policy Committee and the President of the Board, the Chairman and one other member of each Senate Committee on Academic Freedom (to be designated by the Chairman or the Committee), the Chairman and Secretary of the Senate Coordinating Council (or their alternates), and the President of the University and such consultants as he may designate.
