Lhusiastically concurring in the nomination. The Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College also concur. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Swain, this appointment was approved.

HEADSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

(4) The Director of the School of Life Sciences and the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recommend the appointment of Kimball Chase Atwood, presently Associate Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of Chicago, as Professor of Microbiology on indefinite tenure and Head of the Department of Microbiology beginning August 1, 1960, at an annual salary of $18,000 on "A" basis. This appointment is to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Professor H. O. Halvorson, former Head of the Department, as Director of the School of Life Sciences. The members of the Department of professorial rank and the Executive Committee of the School have been consulted. The Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College concur, I recommend approval. O n motion of M r . Harewood, this appointment was approved.

APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT T O DEAN O F ADMISSIONS A N D RECORDS

(5) On recommendation of the Dean of Admissions and Records, I have approved the appointment of Frank A. Bridgewater, presently Director of the Division of Special Services for War Veterans, as Assistant to the Dean of Admissions and Records for one year from September 1, 1960, at a salary of $11,000 on "Y" basis.

On motion of Mr. Swain this appointment was confirmed.

ERIC BAER, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, beginning September 1, 1960, at an annual salary of $6,800 ( B ) . 2. WILLIAM BERKOW, Assistant Professor of General Engineering, beginning September 1, I960, at an annual salary of $7,000 ( B ) , 3. MARTIN I. BLAKE. Associate Professor of Pharmacy, beginning September 1, 1960, at an annual salary of $11,000 (AY), 4. EDWARD M. BRUNER, Associate ProfessoT of Anthropology, beginning September 1, 1961, at an annual salary of $9,000 ( A ) .

5. MORTON KREMEN BRUSSEL, Research Assistant Professor of Physics, begin-

ning June 10, 1960, at an annual salary of $9,000 (DY). 6. JACQUES COLLIN, Assistant Professor of Architecture, beginning September 1 I960, at an annual salary of $7,500 <D).
