This is supplementary to the list of applications recommended to the Board of Trustees on March 14, 1961, College of Commerce and Business Administration V LEWIS BASSIE^ Professor of Economics and Director of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research, full year, one-half pay; to make a comprehensive study in western European industrial countries of government subsidies covering money payments, provision of services below tost, tax concessions, and measures to raise prices. College of Education NORMAN E. GRONLUND, Professor of Education, second semester, full pay; for research in libraries and visits to selected schools to study the theory, research, and methods of measuring understandings, thinking skills, and other complex educational outcomes. College of Physical Education HAROLD E, KENXEY, Professor of Physical Education, second semester, full pay; for a study of physical education and athletic programs in high schools of Illinois, with some studies of schools in other states, to determine how the physical education programs at the University of Illinois might be improved to serve more adequately the needs of high school teachers of physical education and coaches; a secondary part of this program will be to get information on adequacies of facilities for physical education, recreation, and athletics provided by public school districts, Chicago Undergraduate Division MAURITA WILLETT, Assistant Professor of English, full year, one-half pay, or second semester, full pay; full year's leave contingent upon supplementary financial aid; for a comparative study of treatment of witchcraft and diabolism in American and Russian literature of the nineteenth century and of Russian folklore; work to be done chiefly at Harvard University and the other centers of Slavic literature.

On motion of Mr, Pogue, these leaves were granted, as recommended.

JANE ADDAMS GRADUATE SCHOOL O F SOCIAL WORK

(8) On recommendation of the Executive Committee of the School of Social Work and with the concurrence of the University administrative officers concerned, and of the Executive Committee of the University Council, I recommend that the name of the School be changed to the Jane Addams Graduate School of Social Work. The School will continue to have its headquarters at Urbana-Champaign but its Chicago activities, now housed at the Chicago Professional Colleges, will be rehoused in appropriate quarters on the new campus fit the Chicago Undergraduate Division. O n motion of Mrs, Watkins, this recommendation was approved.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

(9) The "Urbana-Champaign and the Chicago Undergraduate Division Senates recommend that the language requirements for admission to all curricula in liberal arts and sciences and to the curricula in art and music in the College of Fine and Applied Arts be revised to read: The foreign language requirement for admission is fulfilled by two units in M)' one foreign language taken m an accredited high school. Alternatively, the language requirement for admission may be fulfilled by passing an entrance examination in any foreign language which is regularly taught in the University. Le*s than one unit in a foreign language is not acceptable for admission. This change will become effective immediately. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, this recommendation was approved.
