BOARD OF TRUSTEES

MEETINGS O F COMMITTEES

[December 21

Meetings of the Board's Committees on Buildings and Grounds and on General Policy were held on Wednesday, December 21, 1960, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

MINUTES APPROVED

The Secretary presented the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees on June 14, 1960, press proof copies of which have previously been sent to the Board. On motion of Mr. Swain, these minutes were approved as printed on pages 1311 to 1752, inclusive.

BUSINESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY

Tbe Board took up consideration of the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University.

AWARD OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT CERTIFICATES

(1) The Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded, under Section 5 of the Illinois Accountancy Act of 1943 as amended, to the following candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked Certified Public Accountant certificates obtained by passing a standard written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law: Slate from Which They Name Address Obtained Certificates

APPOINTMENT OF VICE-PRESIDENT IN CHARGE O F T H E CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION

(2) In the planning of the development of the Chicago Undergraduate Division, it has long been contemplated that at some appropriate point there should be brought into the direction of this work and to the continuing administration of this important University program an administrator with broad educational as well as administrative experience, expertness in physical planning and distinction in past educational service who could appropriately fill the post of Vice-President for the Chicago Undergraduate Division, paralleling the office of Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges. Indeed, such an officer has been needed for the past year or more and without him unusually heavy responsibilities for the planning of the future of the Chicago Undergraduate Division, with it* implications for over-all University planning, have had to be assumed informally by other University officers. The appointment of a Vice-President for the Chicago Undergraduate Division would in no way affect the responsibilities of the present office of Executive Dean. ln_ fact, the Office of Executive Dean would have increasingly greater responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Undergraduate Division, especially when it is relocated and its enrollment and faculty inevitably increase. With the approval or the Universities Bond Issue and this assurance that funds will be available for a new campus and buildings for the Chicago Undergraduate Division, it is now possible to invite to the proposed post of VircPresident a man who is willing to make a career out of the task ahead and who
