MEETINGS O F COMMITTEES

[October 19

Meetings of the Board's Committees on General Policy and Finance were held on Wednesday, October 19, I960, beginning at 9:00 a.m., and of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds beginning at 2:30 p.m.

PRESIDENT HENRY ELECTED C H A I R M A N OF T H E AMERICAN C O U N C I L O N EDUCATION

Mrs. Watkins offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

WHEREAS, during the forty-third Annua! Meeting of the American Council on Education, held at Chicago, Illinois, on October 6 and 7, the Council elected as its Chairman for the coming year, Dr. David D- Henry, President of the University of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the names of the past Chairmen of this organization constitute a roster of the most distinguished leaders in higher education in this country; and WHEREAS, election to the office of Chairman of the American Council on Education is considered one of the highest honors which can be conferred upon an educator; Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois express its recognition of this supreme and well-merited honor which has been accorded Dr. Henry, and extend its congratulations and best wishes. T h i s resolution was adopted by a standing vote. BUSINESS PRESENTED BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY T h e Board took up consideration of the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University.

APPOINTMENTS T O T H E FACULTY

(1) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. 1. DONALD BARTON, Visiting Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry, nine months from September 1, 1960, at a salary of $6,550 ( G ) .

2. WILLIAM GEORGE HUBEK, Assistant Professor of Veterinary Physiology and

Pharmacology, College of Veterinary Medicine, and in Veterinary Research, Agricultural Experiment Station, beginning September 1, I960, at an annual salary of $9,500 (DY). 3. MRS, ELAINE PADEN, Assistant Professor of Speech, beginning September 1, I960, at an annual salary o£ $6,800 ( D ) .

4. MURRAY DONALD SIBKIS, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, be-

ginning September 1, I960, at an annual salary of $10,000 ( B ) . 5. ROBERT SPITZE, Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics, heginning September 26, 1960, at an annual salary of $10,400 (DY). Appointments to Nonacademic Staff The Director of Nonacademic Personnel reports the following appointments to supervisory positions of upper level responsibility. 1. ROBERT V. CAMPBELL, Assistant Manager of Photographic Laboratory, beginning August 22, I960, at an annual salary of $6,300. 2. CLARENCE E, GOTSCHALL, Mechanical Construction Superintendent, Physical Plant Department, beginning August 1, 1960, at an annual salary of $8,400. 3. JOSEPH F. LEISTNG, Operations Engineer, Physical Plant Department, beginning August 1, 1960, at an annual salary of $9,600. 4. CARL F. REARDGN, Assistant Food Production Manager, Illini Union, beginning August 1, I960, at an annual salary of $4,600. 5. MRS, BARBARA L. REED, Assistant to Social Director, Illini Union, beginning July 25, I960, at an annual salary of $4,405. 6. DONALD R. SHEPPELMAN, Assistant Food Production Manager, Residence Halls, beginning August 15, I960, at an annual salary of $5,200. O n motion of M r . Swain, these appointments were confirmed.
