BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Executive Vice-President and Provost recommends the following appropriations to supplement existing expense and equipment budgets: Dean of Students, for publications and new student orientation 10 550 Grand Total $501031 I concur.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, these appropriations were made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Dilliard, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Kerner.

REQUEST OF MR. SWAIN

At this point, Mr. Swain asked to be excused from the meeting temporarily; and he also requested leave to be recorded as voting "Aye" on all recommendations which come up for consideration during his absence, stating that he had studied them and has no questions about or dissent from any of the items. There being no objections, leave was granted.

CONTRACTS FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AT THE MEDICAL CENTER CAMPUS T h e following four recommendations relating to capital improvements at the Medical Center were presented and considered separately: contracts for remodeling in First Unit of Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building, contract for protective screens in Research and Educational Hospitals, contract for new power supply at the Medical Center Campus, and contract for engine-driven generators, switchgear, and associated equipment.

On motion of Mr. Wilkins, the Board voted that, following consideration of each item, official action on these contracts would be taken by one roll call vote of record.

CONTRACTS FOR REMODELING IN FIRST UNIT OF DENTISTRY-MEDICINE-PHARMACY BUILDING (15) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of the following contracts for the remodeling of two rooms in the first unit of the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building, the award in each case being to the lowest bidder: General — Hubschman Construction Company, Chicago $ 6 337 Laboratory equipment — Kewaunee Manufacturing Company, Evanston.. 12 112 Total $18 449 The work will consist of rehabilitation of biochemistry laboratories in Rooms 328 and 334, and is a part of the 1961-63 building program at the Medical Center. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations to the University for 1961-63 from the Universities Building Fund and have been released by the Governor. I concur. CONTRACT FOR PROTECTIVE SCREENS IN RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS (16) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $7,074 to the Chamberlin Detention Screens, Inc., Byram, Connecticut, the lowest bidder, for installation of twenty-six protective screens in the Research and Educational Hospitals Addition. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations to the University for 1961-63 from the Universities Building Fund and have been released by the Governor. I concur.
