PRESIDENT'S REPORT ON SELECTED TOPICS OF CURRENT INTEREST (18) President Henry presented a report on a number of subjects of significant current events and items of interest. Copies of the complete report were distributed at the meeting, and a copy was filed with the Secretary for record. A t this point, M r . H a r e w o o d joined the meeting. RECENT ENROLLMENT TRENDS AND REVISED PROJECTIONS (19) Executive Vice-President and Provost Lanier presented a report on recent enrollment trends and revised projections, covering the period from the first semester of 1959-60 through the first semester of 1965-66. An outline of his presentation was distributed at the meeting, and a copy has been filed with the Secretary for record. FACULTY CONFERENCE ON THE ROLE OF THE UNIVERSITY IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION (20) On December 2, 1961, the President of the University convened a special faculty conference in which one hundred members of the faculty representing all three campuses of the University participated in an all day and evening discussion of the role of the University in international affairs to assess the University's present activities in this area, and to consider means of meeting its future responsibilities. The conference was planned and organized by a Steering Committee: Richard Butwell, Associate Professor of Political Science, Chairman; J. B. Casagrande, Professor and Head of the Department of Anthropology; H . G. Halcrow, P r o fessor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics; P. P. Klassen, Professor of Sociology, Chicago Undergraduate Division; J. W. Peltason, P r o fessor of Political Science and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and Jack Stillinger, Associate Professor of English. The following topics were discussed: (1) Area Study Programs; (2) Non-Western Courses in the Undergraduate Curriculum; (3) Overseas Programs; (4) Training for Overseas Service. Study materials were supplied to all of the participants in advance. In the evening, the conference was addressed by Professor George E. Taylor, Director °f the Russian and F a r Eastern Institute, University of Washington (Seattle). At the conclusion of the conference, the following report and recommendations were adopted:
