EASEMENT ON HARTSBURG EXPERIMENT STATION

(28) The Superintendent of_ Highways of Logan County has requested an easement of right-of-way for highway purposes over land owned by the University and used as an Agricultural Experiment Station near Hartsburg. This is necessary in order to widen an existing road. " The Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend tliat this easement be granted and that the following resolution be adopted: Resolution Be It, And It Hereby Is Resolved, by this Board of Trustees of The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, a public corporation of the State of Illinois, that the Comptroller and Secretary of this Board of Trustees be, and they hereby are, authorized and directed to execute, acknowledge, and deliver in the name and in behalf of this corporation, and under its corporate seal, a grant, in the form approved by the Legal Counsel of this corporation, to the County of Logan in the State of Illinois, of an easement of right-of-way for public highway purposes in a tract of land situated in said county, title to which is held by this [juitlic corporation, described as follows, viz: A part of the South half of the Southwest quarter of the Southwest quarter of Section 22, Township 21 North, Range 3 West of the Third Principal Meridian, described as follows, to-wit: Beginning at a stone marking the Southwest corner of said Section 22, running thence North along the West line of said Section 22 for a distance of 50.0 feet, thence East 31.6 feet to the East Right of Way line of an Orvil Road District Road, commonly known as the 'Experiment Station Road," thence South 45" East 212 feet, thence East 1,283.3 feet, thence South 35.0 feet, thence West 1,329.9 feet along the South line of said Section 22 to the Point of Beginning, Excepting that portion already in use for highway purposes, said tract containing 0,19 acres, more or less. The grant of an easement of right-of-way for public highway purposes in said tract of land hereby authorized shall provide that in the event said tract of land ceases to he used for public highway purposes the easement granted the County of Logan therein and thereby shali cease and determine and said tract or strip of land shall revert to this public corporation free and clear of said easement, and shall also be made upon, and contain, the following terms and conditions: 1. The County of Logan shall pay to this public corporation for said grant the sum of $60.00 simultaneously with the delivery of said grant to said County. 2, The County of Logan shall, at its own so!e expense, remove the presently existing fence marking the present boundary of the roadway now situated adverse 10 said strip of land which will be widened as a result of this grant and will rqilace and restore said fence at a new location heretofore agreed upon in as good condition as is said presently existing fence. i. The entrance to property retained by this public corporation and situated adjacent to said hereinabove described tract shall be moved, by the County of Logan and at its expense, from its present location to a point about one hundred twenty-five feet east thereof and in line with the existing driveway which leads lo the existing barn located on said retained property of this public corporation.

On motion of Mr. Swain, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr, Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs, Watkins, Mr, Wilkins, MT. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.

C O M M U N I C A T I O N FROM MEMBERS O F THE FACULTY

(29) At its meeting on July 26, 1960, the Board took note of a communication, 'ii the form of an open letter, dated July 15, 1960, to the Board of Trustees from s number of members of the University faculty concerning the University's action Jji the case of Dr. Leo F. Koch which was sent to members of the Board of trustees and was released by some of its signers for publication on July 37. The ward referred this communication to the Committee on General Policy for study and report.
