FEDERAL GRANT AND MATCHING FUNDS FOR ZOOLOGY RESEARCH LABORATORY (5) The National Science Foundation has made a grant of $9,300 to the University for "Remodeling a Laboratory for Research in Zoology," on condition that this grant will be matched by the University from nonfederal sources to the extent of at least SO per cent of the direct costs of the project. The Executive Vice-President and Provost and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend that this grant be accepted and that an assignment of $9,300 for the required matching funds be made from the state capital appropriations in the Universities Building Fund for enlargement and rehabilitation of existing buildings. REMODELING IN 1LLINI UNION BOOKSTORE (6) The Vice-President and Comptroller and the Director of the Physical Plant recommend that remodeling and improvements, estimated to cost $45,000, be made in the Illini Union Bookstore in the Arcade Building on Wright Street, Champaign, financed by assignments of funds from the following sources: Bookstore Equipment Replacement Account $ 16 000 Bookstore Income S 000 Arcade Building Operations (derived from rental payments by the Bookstore to the University) 24 000 The work will include enclosing the balcony on the second floor of the Arcade Building; converting the stock space and the sales area to a self-service operation; removal of existing partitions and installation of new ones; floor covering; change in stairs to second floor; painting; installation of new ceiling lights and other wiring improvements; and installation of two new cash registers. I concur and recommend assignments of funds as indicated.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, this remodeling program was approved, and the requested assignments of funds were authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Dilliard, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Kerner.

CONTRACT FOR ADDITION TO ABBOTT POWER PLANT (7) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $792,482 to the Babcock and Wilcox Company, Chicago, the only bidder, for Division "9-A" for the addition to the Abbott Power Plant (Boiler No. 7). Steam generating unit with auxiliaries $768 024 Boiler feed pump 24 458 Total $792 482 Funds are available in the state appropriations from the Universities Building Fund and have been released by the Governor. Submitted herewith is a report from the Physical Plant Department on this project, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r .
