respecting this bequest. If either of the universities fail to formally accept the legacy, the other becomes the full recipient of this bequest._ I recommend acceptance of the bequest and adoption of the following resolution. Resolution WHEREAS the University of Illinois is a beneficiary under the Last Will and Testament of Eugene S. Boerner, Deceased, and WHEREAS the Deceased bequeathed 20 per cent of his stock in Jackson & Perkins Company to the University of Illinois, which stock has been transferred to the H a r r y and David Corporation under a stock purchase agreement, dated August 13, 1966, and WHEREAS the Deceased expressed a desire for the stock or the proceeds thereof to be used by the University of Illinois to establish a professorial chair devoted to the research, development and general educational studies relating to roses, or, for scholarships to students doing major work in the development, culture and pathology of roses, and WHEREAS the Executor has requested the University of Illinois to expressly and specifically accept this request; Now Therefore, be it resolved by The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, a public corporation of the State of Illinois, that the bequest made to this public corporation under the Last Will and Testament of Eugene S. Boerner, be and it hereby is, accepted upon the terms and conditions set forth in the Will; and Be It Further Resolved by this Board of Trustees that the Comptroller, H. 0 . Farber, and the Secretary, Earl W . Porter, of this corporation be, and they hereby are, authorized and directed, to execute in the name of and on behalf of, this corporation such documents and to take such other action in connection therewith as said Comptroller and Secretary may deem to be necessary or desirable to evidence or show the acceptance of such bequest by this corporation and to execute the conveyance of title to, and the transfer of possession of the assets thereof to this public corporation. PURCHASES (34) The President submitted, with his concurrence, a list of purchases recommended by the Director of Purchases and the Vice-President and Comptroller; also a list of purchases authorized by the President. T h e lists of purchases authorized and purchases recommended for Board approval were presented in two categories: purchases from appropriated funds (i.e., from state appropriations to the University) and purchases from institutional funds. T h e latter term designates funds received by the University under contracts with the United States government, contracts with private corporations and other organizations, funds from foundation grants, and grants from corporations and other donors, and University revolving funds authorized by law. The total amounts of these purchases w e r e : From Appropriated Funds Purchases Authorized $ 9 609 00 Purchases Recommended 753 186 53 From Institutional Funds $ 762 79S S3 Purchases Recommended $4 118 643 33 Grand Total $4 881 438 86 A complete list of the purchases authorized and purchases recommended, with supporting information, including the quotations received, was sent to each member of the Board in advance of the meeting, and a copy is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.

On motion of Mr. Clement, the purchases authorized by the President were approved, and the purchases recommended were authorized.
