REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD

ELECTION TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITIES RETIREMENT SYSTEM

President Johnston announced that there is a vacancy in the representation from the Board of Trustees of the University on the Board of Trustees of the Universities Retirement System of Illinois and called for an election. On motion of Mr. Hughes, Mr. Grimes was unanimously elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Universities Retirement System of Illinois. The other previously elected representatives are Mr. Hughes and Mr. Jones.

CIVIL SERVICE MERIT BOARD

President Johnston called attention to the fact that it has been the procedure that the three members of the Board of Trustees' Committee on Nonacademic Personnel also serve on the Civil Service Merit Board. The Board confirmed the appointment of the members of the Committee on Nonacademic Personnel — Mr. Hughes, Mr. Swain, and Dr. Weatherly — as representatives on the Civil Service Merit Board.

FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS

President Johnston reminded the Trustees that the next three meetings will be held: May 16, 1967, at the Medical Center; June 20, 1967, at Urbana; and July 26, 1967, at Urbana. REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Executive Committee submitted the following report and minutes of its meeting on April 4, 1967.

On call of the Chairman, a meeting of the Executive Committee of The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in Room 800, 135 East Eleventh Place, Chicago, Illinois, on Tuesday, April 4, 1967, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The following members of the Committee were present: Mr. Wayne A. Johnston, Chairman; Mr. Howard W. Clement. Mr. Timothy W. Swain was absent. Also present w e r e : President David D. H e n r y ; Vice-President and Comptroller H. O. F a r b e r ; Mr. C. E. Flynn, Assistant to the President and Director of Public Information; and Mr. Earl W. Porter, Secretary of the Board of Trustees. The Committee considered the following recommendations from the President of the University. REQUEST FOR EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO COVER CASUALTY LOSSES The University of Illinois, Urbana campus, this winter suffered casualty losses not covered by insurance as follows : 1. Fire in Motion Picture Services January 28, 1967 $ 45 000 00 2. Fire in Computer Laboratory March 4, 1967 155 700 00 Building $ 27 000 00 Equipment 128 700 00 3. Ice Storm Damage to W I L L Radio Towers . J a n u a r y 27, 1967 28 140 00 Total $228 840 00 The fire in the Motion Picture Services Unit was located in space which the University leased on the second floor above Bailey & Himes store (606 East Green Street, Champaign). Therefore, there was no loss to University buildings. The fire in the Computer Laboratory on March 4 fortunately did not mate-
