APPOINTMENT OF VICE-CHANCELLOR FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, URBANA (3) The Chancellor-elect for the Urbana campus recommends the establishment of the position of Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and the appointment to that position of Professor Herbert E. Carter, presently Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. This recommendation is made after consultation with a special committee elected by the Urbana Faculty Senate. 1 The appointment would become effective September 1, 1967, for service on a twelve-month basis at an annual salary of $31,500. Professor Carter's long and distinguished services to the University of Illinois are well-known to the Trustees. As recommended in a resolution by the Senate, the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs would be the chief academic officer under the Chancellor and would perform such functions as might be delegated to him by the Chancellor. Future appointments to this position would be made on recommendation of the Chancellor and of the President. The Chancellor would have the advice of representatives of the Senate before submitting his recommendation to the President. This recommendation is endorsed by the Executive Vice-President and Provost. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . C l e m e n t , t h i s p o s i t i o n w a s a u t h o r i z e d a n d t h e appointment was approved. APPOINTMENT OF ASSOCIATE CHANCELLOR FOR ADMINISTRATION, URBANA (4) The Chancellor-elect for the Urbana campus recommends the establishment of the position of Associate Chancellor for Administration and the appointment to that position of John W. Briscoe, Professor of Civil Engineering, who is presently serving as Associate Provost. The appointment would become effective September 1, 1967, for service on a twelve-month basis at an annual salary of $23,500. Professor Briscoe would
