R E C O M M E N D A T I O N S O F T H E ALL-UNIVERSITY COMMITTEE O N ADMISSIONS FOR A C C E P T A N C E O F CREDIT (8) The University Senates and the Senate Coordinating Council have approved recommendations from the All-University Committee on Admissions for additions to the regulations concerning acceptance of transfer credit as follows: A. The present regulations which govern the transfer of credits from new, unaccredited institutions are as follows: T h e D i s c o n t i n u a t i o n of Accreditation of I n s t i t u t i o n s of H i g h e r L e a r n i n g by t h e University of Illinois The University of Illinois discontinued, on September 1, 1959, the accreditation of institutions of higher learning in Illinois. The University will accept the accredited status accorded institutions by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or by one of the agencies recognized by the National Commission on Accrediting. 1. With respect to two-year and four-year institutions that have not been accredited by the North Central Association, but which have been approved by the University, the University shall (a) inform these institutions that it is discontinuing accrediting and rating activities, effective September, 1959; (b) inform these institutions that present ratings will be continued for a period of five years for two-year institutions and for four-year institutions, unless evidence is received concerning one or more of these institutions clearly indicating that such ratings should not be continued; (c) inform these institutions that it will, after September 1, 1959, accept accreditation by the North Central Association; and (d) notify these institutions that it will be glad to cooperate with them in assisting them to become fully accredited. 2. With respect to institutions that are in the process of establishing programs, the University shall advise these institutions when they seek approval that until they are accredited by the North Central Association, the University will admit students who have completed courses in these institutions on the basis of validation by examination or by work in advanced courses in sequence, taken in residence. The All-University Committee on Admissions now recommends the addition of the following statement to item 2 above to be effective upon approval by the Board of Trustees. Credits earned at a junior college which has not been accredited by the North Central Association, but which has been given a Class 1 rating and is recognized by the Illinois Junior College Board, will be accepted without validation for a period of time not to exceed five years from the date on which the college registers its first class after achieving Class 1 status. The five-year period provides the normal amount of time necessary to acquire accreditation by the North Central Association. 3. In institutions that have not been accredited by the North Central Association or approved by the University of Illinois, but that have been accredited or approved by one of the agencies recognized by the National Commission on Accrediting, the University shall accept all of the credit earned in such institutions and indicate that the precise amount of such credit which is applicable toward
